VII. 100ft of sea, 2019

100ft of sea is a filmic gesture, made by submerging unexposed 16mm film in saltwater sent from Adelaide, Australia, the site of the artist's grandmother's drowning at sea in 1996. The residue of this exchange forms an image that embodies this memory; its marks and scratches revealing the affect of the saltwater and an apparition of a moment in time. Physically displayed in the space, alongside its projection, the dual aspects of the work mediate the relationship of film as the production and presentation of images, and the materialisation of place.
